ping.sg is Live!

Finally!

A project that I have been wanted to do for about a year ago is launched. Proudly presenting…

ping.sg logo
ping.sg

It is currently at version 0.5 0.52 beta and would continue to be actively developed.

ping.sg is created as a meta blog for the bloggers in Singapore. Through ping.sg, we would not only be able to keep track of the latest posts of bloggers in country, ping.sg also aims to create a virtual community for bloggers, and to provide a wider audience to deserving bloggers. In other words, you no longer have to be mr brown or xiaxue to get readers. If you blogged a good post, you wouldn’t want your post to go unnoticed. Ping it up to ping.sg, you would be getting the attention you deserve.

This is a only a beta release of ping.sg and thus it is only the tip of the iceberg. I still have a list of features waiting to be implemented on ping.sg, most of them aim to create a community among the bloggers in Singapore. Stay tuned to ping.sg and hopefully you will grow along with ping.sg.

I’m dedicating this project to my lovely girlfriend, Sek Ling, who has been supporting me all along to develop this project. It is hard for me to juggle between clients’ work and my own project. I would not have completed it if she had not been continuously nagging me and most importantly encourage to work hard on this project. I love you darling. Thank you so much for your support. This is for you.

Feel free to give the service a try. Register your blog at ping.sg

If you have any questions, bug reports, or suggestions, feel free to leave them at the comment over here or email me at chua@uzyn.com. An official blog for ping.sg is coming soon.

  2. Yup. It’s only for local blogs currently.

    :)

  4. Haha. Current it’s not strict.

If one feels his blog appeals to the local (Singapore) audience, or has a local connection, feel free to ping it up.

Once the app is matured I probably would create a sister site for international.

I want it to keep local as the actual aim is to create community. More features which I have yet to be implemented would further enforce the aim.

    Thanks Ah Knight. :)

  9. ok, i may sound real stupid. i sign up liao, now what? what do i do? can’t find a user manual or faq anywhere leh, bro.

  10. oh yes, and you haven’t added the ping url to your projects list! hee… :)

LinDa on July 4th, 2006 at 11:28 pm
  11. Okay I have signed up for this though I hardly understand it completely (noob that I am) but I take it it is like Tomorrow only that you Tomorrow yourself instead of hope that other people will notice and read you, is it?

  12. Hi Linda and avalon,

Yes, ping.sg needs a guide/FAQ. I’ll try to get an FAQ up soon probably.

Anyone wants to help on that? How about I start a wiki? :)

uzyn on July 5th, 2006 at 12:14 am
  13. avalon, ping.sg is not really like tomorrow.sg.

Bloggers are supposed to ping each and every single post to ping.sg, no matter it’s good or bad, so that the blogger would gain some exposure.

And with new feature, you’ll probably see why pinging every post there would be useful.

    Thanks for your interest.

  14. hey cool project. all the best!

tinkertailor on July 5th, 2006 at 12:23 am
  15. Nicely done… I notice it also aggregates posts based on popularity. How is “popularity” determined? By number of trackbacks/comments?

Kevin on July 5th, 2006 at 12:26 am
  16. Thanks tinkertailor.

Kevin, it’s from people reading the particular post through ping.sg’s feed or website.

(All these questions would be compiled on FAQ. Hehe. Thanks for contributing)

  17. It’s at v0.52 now.

Thanks to all of you for using the service. Though no proper bug report has been filed, it helped me encounter quite a few bugs and I’ve fixed those that I’ve encountered. Thank you all once again!

The pong (read) algorithm has also been updated for more fairness as I’ve discovered that a lot of users in Singapore are using proxy, thus having the same IP. The pong determination should be able to take into account of that better from v0.52 onwards.

Hopefully you will keep pinging ping.sg.

Wait till I teach it to speak XML-RPC pingback, pinging ping.sg’s going to be much easier soon.

Sorry, haven’t managed to get the FAQ up. Will try to get it up soon.

  18. Whoa, great stuff, makes me look forward to the sister site. (of course, does being born in Singapore make me more er, eligible for this?)

Swifty on July 5th, 2006 at 3:05 am
  19. Sadly, livejournal doesn’t have a ping service (I think). If not I would add my blog.

nameless on July 5th, 2006 at 8:01 am
  20. Oh. Put every post huh. Okies I try when I next post. Sorry for being noob.

  22. […] Cobaltpaladin is a friend of mine and I told him about it. He liked the idea and he submitted it to tomorrow.sg, hoping that the project to get noticed. It was featured on tomorrow.sg and it did get some early adopters. Most of the early adopters liked the idea of the project and some decided to blog about it (links to the early blogs). Bernard even decided to interview me on SGEntrepreneurs about this. […]

  23. What I like about Ping.sg is that this is the place where I can find blogs to read. It is so much easier to find instead of searching for them in search engines websites.

I get to know new friends here. Would like to take this opportunity to thank you for creating this great site for everyone.

    Cheers!

It has been found that people that lose weight on the Weight Watchers program tend to keep it off. Weight Watchers is a program that has changed with the times. Years ago this program was much more strict, but as the world has changed, the Weight…
