Odd Time Signature

This is exactly the main reason why I love progressive rock so much.

The flexibility of it all, not just in terms of melody or rhythm but also in terms of the whole structure of a song.

  2. Yeah I am a huge fan of progressive rock and metal too. Bands like Mars Volta, Rush, Mastodon, for even more insane time signatures check out Dillinger Escape Plan, Between the Buried and Me, and Protest the Hero.

  3. OMG. You know. When I read “progression rock”, my first association is Dream Theatre.

Gosh … I always wonder how the heck they do progression rock on the odd timing. 4/4 + 5/8 = 13/8! It seems so simple as he explains. But I bet it is darn hard to execute.
