Fun project 16 years ago

Fun project. 16 years ago today, in 2009, I built this dashboard for IMDA (then Media Development Authority of Singapore [MDA]) to showcase the traffic to MDA-funded startups.

IMDA Dashboard from 2009

It was a "simulated" live data of all visitors to all the tracked sites, with the data source being Google Analytics. At least one of the startups then is now a unicorn. You can probably guess which one - Sea, then Garena.

It was meant to be a permanent display at MDA's office, the dashboard would animate, with spinning globe, dropping pins and zooming into busy regions unsupervised while allowing for manual controls when needed.

The key challenges back then was how to get this to run on limited resource on a consumer desktop computer (not GPU servers). Unsurprisingly, Mac performed much better than Windows. Windows struggled to display it in an acceptable framerate.
